MAT 096 - Intermediate Algebra
Develops algebra skills and a conceptual understanding of algebraic topics, and focuses on the relationship between algebraic, graphical, and numeric approaches to solving problems. Students study topics that include linear equations and systems of equations, methods for solving problems, radicals and radical equations, quadratic equations and the quadratic formula, rational exponents and rational expressions. The course places emphasis on graphing in the Cartesian coordinate system with particular stress on graphing linear equations and systems of equations. Students work at times with calculators and/or computers. NOTE: This course may not be used to fulfill degree or certificate requirements. A grade of C minus or higher is required to pass this course (Ds are not awarded). Prereq: MAT 095 (MAT 105) or MAT 095S or satisfactory placement ; ENG 090 or satisfactory placement , or concurrent enrollment; ENG 094 or satisfactory placement. Placement tests are used only for initial course placement; see catalog for details.
